Solo Redria Cast Path Guide for PSO Ephinea's Classic mode
by Yalyn

(Quick disclaimer: I am not an Ephinea staff/contributor, I’m also not in any Classic Discord servers.)

What is this?
This is a guide designed for only experienced players who wishes to play Ephinea's Classic mode solo. This guide assumes the player has either little to no playtime on Classic mode. Basically “starting fresh.”

What is Classic mode?

On June 12th 2022, classic mode was added into the server and is designed to provide an experience that is similar to PSOGC/PSOXbox (and possibly close to the official PSOBB Beta where players could not play Ultimate difficultly yet.)

The biggest and most notable would be the removal of Episode 4 and all the gear/items from that said episode.

However, like the admins have said again and again, Classic is not meant to be a 1 to 1 identical to PSOGC / PSOXbox. If you are curious on the big to small difference that is not documented then I put that in the extras section.

Should I play classic mode?

Let’s get this warning out of the way right now. If you didn’t read the message that popped up right when you enter into the classic’s ship called US/Devaloka and you’ve created a party and enter, then your character is permanently in classic mode. Meaning that, you cannot play with players that are in other ships such as Fodra. The admins may put in a command to switch your character into normal mode but for now it’s important to know what kind of experience you want right now.

If you wanted to play with the many players that are online then it’s obvious that you want to play on normal mode instead of classic. Just avoid US/Devaloka ship.

Personally I feel that classic mode is designed for players in mind that want a new feel of PSO by having certain content removed/inaccessible. I’ll add my thoughts in the extras.

Who is this for?

This guide created for players who already have played PSO before. If you are new to the game (as in never touched PSO ever at all), then I’d skip this guide. New players should just pick any character/ID and have fun.

It is also created in mind of doing a lot of solo grinding without having to rely on other teammates. If you planning to play with others right away, then I’d also would skip this guide as I do not want to have the lobby be filled with too many Redria users.

Do I have to play solo all the time?

No. But when you start to see that there is no one online to play with, this guide can assist you what you can do on your own.

Is this guide useful for PSOGamecube/PSOXbox?

Oddly yes, and even more interesting is that I always wanted to make this guide before classic mode existed. Once Ephinea launched classic mode, I quickly put together a small guide that contains links to the simulator and what gear to hunt. What you are reading right now is an updated guide.

Creating your character:

First you are going to pick between HUcast and HUcaseal. Pick HUcast if you want strong attack power (ATP), pick HUcaseal if you want strong accuracy (ATA).

Having a CAST allows you to use gear that human/newman cannot use. (Such as S-parts and D-parts)

Having a high level hunter class means you can farm lucky coins for Gallon’s roulette (in a quest called Gallon’s Shop.) One of the weapons in the prize pool has a Vjaya which is an endgame weapon to get (you’d want either 40 to 50 hit and tek it 10% up for it to be worth it.)

Redria is going to be your ID as you’ll be hunting for the unit that is called God/Battle. Use the command “/modsecid redria” in the lobby before your character reaches level 20.

From analyzing the drop charts for too long, the only reason why I see players wanting to choose RAcast/RAcaseal is because the Spread Needle drop in ultimate Ruins and maybe Monkey King Bar and Heaven Punisher in EP2. Otherwise, most of the gear I see is going to be more favorable towards hunter class.

Material planning:

There three type of material plans that is inspired from Matt Swift’s mat plans but modified a bit.

First is just “important stats” that is just power and luck only. Useful for early to mid game.

Second is “min-max” that uses power, luck, and a bit of defense/evade. Useful for late game.

The first just uses God/Luck only and the second uses two units that is God/Power and God/Luck (plus God/Battle of course.) Those are units that drop on a Redria ID.

Finally, “max” uses whatever is possible to max the stats. This uses two God/Ability (and again, plus God/Battle) Not worth it unless you have goods to trade with someone that has those units or you just hunt those units on a different ID later on. Because God/Ability does not drop in Redria ID (just want to point that out if you are wondering why.)

Remember that the “min-max” and “max” are really meant for those who are level 200s.

I’ll be using the Status simulator from this website.

Interestingly you could switch HUcaseal’s Min-Max build to Max just by switching two units and mag later on if you are obsessed with having a max build.

---

It’s rather odd to see the “important” builds have two free unit slots awhile “min-max” only have one free unit slot. I may or may not have to re-name these builds.

As for the empty unit slots, you have certain choices such as Cure units (I use Cure/Shock a lot), God/HP (useful and drops from Redria Ultimate Vol Opt), and maybe resist/devil to resist against Megid nonsense.

Note that S-parts can be swapped with Kasami Bracer for more attack rather than accuracy.

Mags:

Your choices will be limited if you desire a mag that gives invisibility only. You’ll need to make either Sato or a Nidra mag. A third option is getting a mag cell to make a Soniti which you can either get the cell from Hallo Rappies in Halloween event or get one from a quest called AOL CUP -Sunset base- (can only get one cell per character in hard difficulty and higher from the quest.)

I’ll admit that feeding mags are my weakest point. I’ll suggest you to follow this guide instead as it does a better job guiding you on making a POW mag.

Early Game Hunts:

If you have to do a lot of resets AKA remaking party rooms, use lobby 11 to 20 since you’ll have short walking distance whenever you spawn in there. Also don’t forget to set “/lobby” to your keyboard shortcut for quicker access.

A note about leveling: I believe these hunts should give you enough to work on. What I mean is that if you shift your focus on hunting, you’ll end up getting the experience points needed to level up. Though it is still important to keep track of your materials and mag feeding.

Frames/Barriers/Units:

Normal difficulty

Hard difficulty

Very Hard difficulty

Ultimate difficulty

Weapons:

It’s mostly going to be very common weapons you’d have to deal with first. Depending on the certain level you can always buy charge weapons from the shop. But again, it depends on your character level so seeing Charge Vulcans very early is not going to happen. You’d need to be level 151 to finally start seeing Charge Vulcans in the shop. I hope you like Ult caves.

Hard difficulty

Ultimate difficulty

Checklist:

You should have at least one character that can do the following since you are starting fresh again:

Endgame?:

When I’ve created this guide long ago, I went with the mindset of just helping players getting started fresh on PSOGC and PSOXbox. Its more of a starting point if anything. I never thought about making an endgame section of the guide.

But the lack of RR, PGF, Excal, V101, and so on can be somewhat confusing so I’ll give it a go.

If you can find any TimeAttackers that play a lot of PSOGC, maybe they have a list of what they use, just minus RR/PGF gear and you are good to go.

By the way you’ve reached the point where I’ll start using shorthand names, I’m guessing you are experienced enough to know what these names are.

For HUcast and HUcaseal:

Melee: Vjaya, TJS, RS, BKB, DC, S&Y, Zanba (male only)

Ranged: DoB, ChargeDiska, Raygun and Vulcans (Charge and Zerk), Vise

Control: S-Rank Scythe (Hell), S-Rank J-cutter (Arrest, Hell), Raygun (Arrest, Hell) S-Rank Gun (Zal), Rbaton

Extras: SReds, Berdy, Tblaze, Oro, Lblade

Armor: Dparts, Sweetheart(female only)

Shields: Sparts, Kbracer

Units: (Depends what build you are going for) G/Pow, G/HP, G/Battle, G/Ability, G/Luck, C/Shock

It’s been awhile I’ve played the game, but for the three resist elements--my mind is always on is EDK, ELT, and EFR. So seeking for armor Attribute Plate and shield Attribute Wall is something to look for. Unless you want to use Resist/Devil unit or Delsaber’s Shield for EDK, sure. For EFR, maybe more G/HP since that unit can be overall useful beyond worrying about EFR.

What character should I make next?

If you have obtained another 3 G/Powers and 1 G/Battle, you can make another Hunter. If you managed to get Spread Needle from Ult Ruins, you can make a Ranger (don’t forget the units obviously.) And finally if you have 4 G/Minds, you can make a Force.

Extras:

(This is the end of the guide, if you want to read more of my ramblings, then go ahead.)

What are the differences between PSOGC/PSOXbox and Ephinea’s Classic mode ?

Here goes:

Depending on what server you are in, you’ll either have official quests and a few homebrew quests. Or a server with too many homebrew quests.

Boss rush quests such as TTF and RT is removed but in return there is some homebrew quests added in to keep things not boring.

RR and PGF is possible to get as a server drop.

(Depends on server you join and it’s enabled.)

However, it’s not possible offline and official servers. (Unless you use cheat software or patch the iso disc.)

RR and PGF is not available to get. The drop table is ripped from the PSOGC/PSOXbox data.

Hunter/Ranger/Force wall does exist in game data but it’s not possible to obtain it unpatched offline nor official servers. Now certain servers has it as a server drop or other methods.

Community has voted Hunter/Ranger/Force wall to be unobtainable in classic mode.

Duping also known as Duplication glitch allow the user to make copies of gear/items. This only only works in certain versions of the game.

Transferring items between your characters is simple as using a “/bank” command. The command allows you to access to a shared bank which is far more easier to manage.

It takes 3 steps of walk to transition to running.

**Recoboxing is a method that allow players to gain experience points fast by using a S-Rank Mech with King’s special against Recoboxes, rinse and repeat by telepiping by resetting the monsters’ HP.

***This can oddly help undoing the mistakes in many ways: Consuming the wrong mat, messing up on feeding mag, getting the wrong item from Easter Egg/Jack-O’-Lantern/Christmas Present and mis-tekking your weapon.

Photon Hoard is another method of holding excess amount of Photon Drops. Unlike Photon Spheres, Photon Hoards can be converted from 99 Photons Drops and can be reversed back to 99 PDs.

The removal of TTF and RT means you cannot obtain Works Guard, Black Ring, Purple Ring, and Green Ring. As for Striker of Chao, you cannot easily upgrade in TTF, but it’s still possible to get it through another method which is using a Chao mag as a material instead.

Getting the reward requires the player to have 10,000 kills on Maximum Attack 1 and 10,000 kills on Maximum Attack 2, then collect every Section ID hearts and Class Masters (from players who also has 10k kills), and finally go to Beach Laughter to speak to the rappy to get the reward.

Funny trivia, PC port of PSOv2 has instant load times and 100 character slots … that’s a lot. Another interesting one is in PSOGC if you switch to JP language and hold down Crtl + Alt and type the letters/numbers on a wired keyboard plugged in, you can type in PSO font.

Why your builds lack Cure/Freeze?

Because you can easily escape by wiggling your analog stick or spamming your WASD repetitively. I even made a video about it long ago. I understand if your hands are fatigued or you don’t want to damage your controller then go ahead and use the unit.

What controller / macros you use?

Right now I’m just using an 8-bitdo wired controller that has hall-effect analog sticks and I use AntiMicroX for the most basic setups. If I read correctly from Ephinea’s rules, you are not allowed to have combination setups and/or multiple inputs into one button. Thankfully that video tutorial I’ve made long ago is so basic that anyone could do it. Back to controllers, honestly, I suggest anything that is comfortable to use and durability, it’s odd that my PS1 controller still works to this day.

Have you tested this yourself?

Yes, both on PSOGC and on Ephinea’s Classic.

On PSOGC things was straight forward for offline mode. I even streamed it when I used to broadcast myself in Twitch.tv. Once I hopped on to online mode I took advantage of Schtserv’s server drop. They even had an event where the monsters would drop mostly mats only which made me not have to worry about the inventory/bank space issue in the long run. I was able to get most of the armor and units right away until S-parts being a serious pain. Even with the double rate and access to the government quest, more than 100 attempts … I still haven’t got it.

Once I got to level 70, I finally asked the PSOGC community to help me level up to 80. Breaking my solo journey. Later on I had one person who is nice enough to help me get Kbracer, we hunted it and I got it. The most notable item I got was a 45 hit God Hand, I believe I made a clip on that in Twitch. I still have yet to get Demo Comet even though I used the piping trick. Got an Asuka in a different ID. And finally was gifted a Red Sword even though I rather hunt it myself, I feel like I want to discard it.

Sadly playing on PSOGC online is a struggle. I don’t know if you ever saw my posts but I do my absolute best to add zero emotion to my requests. It’s just “Does anyone want to help me hunt XYZ?” Not the wah-wah boo-hoo, “no one wants to play with me” etc. type of posts. I even saw a TA player struggle to find anyone to play with at that time too.

---

On Ephinea’s Classic, things got real interesting. This time I made sure the mag is leveled quickly to 100 to make sure I don’t mess up, I think I got that done before I was level 30, and I was just idling in my solo room doing that.

Things got even far more interesting … I got S-parts awhile my character was level 37. Talk about the complete opposite of PSOGC, and remember, 100 plus attempts over there with double rates. Ephinea’s Classic does not boost any rates at all so that made it the most crazy experience for me right there. Even more insane is me getting a Hell Raygun with 45 hit from Vhard Ruins 3. That’ll be somewhat useful if I ever want to do that Government quest.

It doesn’t stop there, other than getting the armor and units, I managed to get a myself a Demo Comet after dealing with two Mil Lilies. Even hunted myself a Red Sword which is far more harder compared to Skyly/Viridia.

After getting a Red Slicer, someone asked me if I want to hunt some Hallo Rappies and I said yes. So at level 123, my solo journey ends.

Right now I’ve just got Asuka and I really forgotten how useful the attack animation is compared to a double saber animation. And another crazy luck by getting Kbracer by doing Mines free roam, I just felt like finally beating the level to unlock Ruins but I ended up getting the shield as well. Same nonsense with Electro Frame, first run of Spaceship VR solo, got it. I don’t know why I have too much luck on Classic compared to GC.

Looking through my screenshot folder, yes, I’ve started right at day 1 on 2022, pushing into 2023 I got to level 103, took a break, then played little on 2024, and finally sink in more time in 2025 hunting for some difficult drops.

---

The whole purpose for me was to make sure that I do all the early grind myself without having to rely on others. I handle the mag myself. I’ll hunt the armors and units alone. I’ll make sure that my weapon setup is ready to go. No need to trade a single PD nor get any freebies. (I only got two freebies which is the Red Sword and God/HP in PSOGC and zero in Ephinea’s Classic.)

Unlike a new player who has little to no knowledge of the game, wants to play with others right away and their character level is less than 20. And I get it, some will be happy to help, and others will not want to touch normal to very hard difficulty.

What are your thoughts on Ephinea’s Classic mode?

At first I didn’t honestly think they would even make this happen because of availability of V3 and before is somewhat easy if you put your time and effort into it. But reading back at the original post, it make sense. Ephinea’s Normal mode has drifted way off to the point were it’s kind of hard to call it “vanilla” once you’ve played the game enough, and I mean loads of hours into it. Even now, some of the staff still regrets giving the HUnewy the ability to equip Clio. And even more nitpicks here or there.

The removal of TTF and RT seems like the most nuclear option they’ve chosen in my opinion, because they could of went with the V2 route and just disable rares plus reduce EXP from bosses. Just recently they brought back a quest for Normal mode but with rares disabled. I guess they don’t want to upset new players because let’s be honest we already have a few that entered into Classic without reading the fine print. So it is possible for new players that would waste time playing on a nerfed TTF/RT and get angry for again, not reading the fine print.

However on the other hand, the last time I’ve played Normal mode, which was like five plus years ago, I was wasting time farming RL for the triple 50% calibur … still have yet to get one. Not only that, I also need to waste more time playing RT for the PGF … that’s not fun. So yeah I will admit, these boss rush quests have been played to death and it’s time to move on. I will not miss these quests. However getting Striker of Chao will be very, very difficult.

Since I mentioned it, another great aspect about Ephinea’s Classic mode is having a clear stance on no RR and PGF. Yes, you can already experience this if you play V3 offline unpatched, but once you go online, almost every player you’d encounter will have a certain take if it’s the “right” or “wrong” way to play. You’ll have one player who’ll say it’s “disabled due to balance reasons,” and then another player saying that “it’s in the game data and it’s clear the devs made a mistake.” Don’t worry, I’ve seen enough legitimacy debates and vanilla debates throughout my life. It’s even more interesting when one server admin puts a feature that’ll help players gain more rares awhile the other server admin has a feature that allows the player to turn in junk rares and in return get currency. These admins either have to out-balance each other or ban abusive players. Basically what I’m saying that the complicated nonsense which is debating on PSOGC/PSOXbox online mode is something you do not have to worry about if you are playing on Ephinea’s Classic mode.

What is brilliant now is that since we cannot use RR and Ranger’s Wall (that was voted to be unobtainable by the way) … we finally have a chance to be more creative with our builds. Yes, the S-parts will still be king but that’s behind an awful drop rate, other than that, we can start seeking for armors and shields that has been neglected for too long. The same applies to weapons as well. (If the S-parts ever get nerfed, I’ll just use Kbracer anyway. No problem.)

By the way, I haven’t touched much on TimeAttacking because I don’t do any of that. But I know the moment they saw what’s disabled, it’s clear they know it isn’t worth their time.

The addition of homebrew quests is not only a smart move but more of a necessity. I don’t know if you have ever played V3 on an official server or played the early days of private servers, the quests catalog is very small. I think it’s possible to experience that if you join one of the Sylverant’s servers. You’d have to search real hard to find loads of homebrew quests in the past but I believe most of it are downloadable solo quests only.

What is wonderful about Ephinea’s Classic mode and even the older PSO1 games is that I no longer feel the pressure to play the game because of an event going on. Every time there is an Ephinea Anniversary event, I feel the Fear-Of-Missing-Out (FOMO) kicking in. I feel as if I going to miss a chance of getting good rares with high hit or valuable items in general. But for Classic mode? I can log in whenever I feel like it and play whatever amount of time I want, zero stress.

Other things, I’m okay with increased PDs drop rate in events, I think that’s rare though. (Also that might be the only boost we’ll get in Classic and nothing more.)

And more not Uber/OP homebrew quests would be nice. If that’s ever happening.

I guess the big question is that will more players join in Classic mode? Honestly that’s hard to know because my situation is pretty simple, I’m really bored of Normal mode. I may not have four level 200s characters with insanely high hit percentage weapons, but I understand the mechanics enough to see why I got bored of it. It’s not the new weapons, it’s the V501-V502 and Smartlink. That along with the community’s preferred playstyle (with PGF gear and RR). I will always be behind, I will always be slow, and I will always get used to the fact that no one will join my party due to my sloppiness or how rusty I am. Anyway, back to the question, it’s going to be those who are really bored of Normal mode, or those who preferred playing something that is similar to V3.

Finally … it’s unfortunate that the Ephinea’s wiki lacks a lot of Classic info. It’s easy for me to filter out what is obtainable and not because I’ve played so much PSOGC before but new players will struggle. I’d love to help but I don’t know how wikis work and I dislike their license choice.
